Choosing the Right Size

A small cleanout or single-room purge usually fits a 10 yard container. A remodel, a multi-room purge, or a roofing tear-off tends to land closer to a 15 yard or 20 yard — the sizes most of our customers end up booking. A whole-house renovation, a new-construction job, or an estate cleanout does better in a 30 yard, and high-volume commercial or construction work is often best served by our largest size, the 40 yard. Permits: Private Property vs. Street

A container that sits entirely on your own property — driveway, yard, lot, or gravel pad — needs no permit anywhere in our service area, and that covers the large majority of the drop-offs we do. Permitting only enters the picture when a box has to sit in the street or right-of-way. Inside Nashua city limits, that’s handled by the City’s own Board of Public Works under City Code Ch. 285 (Streets & Sidewalks); call the Board directly to confirm current requirements and any applicable fee before delivery day. New Hampshire counties — Hillsborough and Rockingham — have no land-use or right-of-way permitting authority at all, so in Hudson, Merrimack, Milford, Amherst, Hollis, Brookline, Pelham, Litchfield, Londonderry, and Windham, that town’s own select board or public works department handles street placement instead. What Can — and Can’t — Go In

General household debris, furniture, flooring, drywall, cabinetry, and yard trimmings are all fair game in most roll-offs. A handful of items aren’t. New Hampshire’s NHDES bars TVs, computer monitors, any screen over 4 inches diagonal, and computer CPUs from ordinary landfill or incinerator disposal — a real, active statewide ban. A newer NHDES rule, effective July 1, 2025, bans rechargeable lithium-ion batteries — the kind inside phones, laptops, power tools, and e-bikes — from the trash, landfill, or incinerator entirely, covering both households and businesses, because a punctured or crushed battery pack is a genuine fire risk in a collection truck. Route those through a certified recycler, Call2Recycle, a participating retailer, or a local transfer station. Asbestos is never permitted in any roll-off, anywhere — that always requires licensed abatement. Paint, fuel, motor oil, other chemicals, and medical waste are standard prohibited items as well. Massachusetts runs its own solid waste program through MassDEP rather than NHDES, so confirm current requirements with them directly for our Massachusetts towns. Scheduling Around New England Winters

The Merrimack Valley has a genuine winter ice-storm risk, and the December 11–12, 2008 ice storm is still the benchmark event — more than 400,000 customers lost power statewide, roughly five times worse than the January 1998 ice storm, with restoration taking over two weeks in some areas and Hillsborough County heavily affected; one carbon-monoxide fatality occurred that event from improper generator use. Older records show severe convective weather isn’t unheard-of here either — a May 21, 1814 tornado near Merrimack and Chester, and a July 5, 1984 tornado series near Pelham — but ice is the dominant, most-relevant seasonal hazard for scheduling.
